Sustainability Front and Centre at Sydney Build
Sustainability was well and truly in the spotlight at Sydney Build — on stage and in almost every conversation I had. And honestly, it was great to see.
We caught up with clients and met plenty of new faces who lit up at the idea that there’s a quicker, simpler way to show they’re serious about doing the right thing. Not perfect, not finished — just starting. That’s the key.
Big-name speakers like Mace, John Holland and Mirvac made it clear: ambition is rising, especially around net zero. That ambition is filtering across the industry — and the supply chain is feeling the pressure to keep up.
Manufacturers in particular are facing a steep climb. Many are only just starting to get their heads around embodied carbon, all while juggling an ever-growing list of compliance reporting. Before they even get to other environmental impacts, they’re already swamped.
The truth is, knowledge across the industry is really mixed. And while there’s a wave of international companies trying to break into the Australian market, many don’t yet understand how our local sustainability standards and programs work — and it shows.
The breadth and complexity of environmental reporting can be genuinely overwhelming. For many, it's a wall. At Rebuilt, we’re all about turning that wall into a step. Keep it simple. Start small. Prove you’re serious. Build from there.
That’s the message that really landed at Sydney Build. There’s momentum — we just need to channel it into action. Not more jargon. Not more hoops to jump through. Just better tools, clearer steps, and real change.
Let’s go.
